The Grind of Yanni Hufnagel

Born August 26th, 1982, Yanni Hufnagel is an American collegiate level basketball coach. Hufnagel is the assistant coach of the Nevada Wolf Pack men’s basketball team, the right hand man to Eric Musselman. Yanni has many accolades in professional life but it all started with a penchant for commitment and excellence.

 

Early Life

 

Yanni Hufnagel was raised in Scarsdale, New York. He was cut from Scarsdale High School’s varsity basketball team as a junior, however shook off the disappointment taking on a color commentating position on a school local access cable TV channel specifically following his own teammates. It was always expected of Yanni to perform adversely when in the face of adversity, whether it be on a basketball court, or on your two feet somewhere in the world. Persistence is one of the most sacredly regarded aspects of Yanni’s life.

 

Education

 

Yanni attended Pennsylvania State University where he was recruited for his skills in lacrosse. Although, Hufnagel didn’t stay long. He transferred to Cornell University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial and Labor Relations, graduating in 2006. This man pursued a summer internship with the New Jersey Nets. Afterwards he attended the University of Oklahoma, where he served as a graduate assistant coach. Yanni is often regarded as a major influencer to the development of professional basketball player Blake Griffin’s career. From UO, Yanni Hufnagel earned a master’s degree in Adult and Higher Education with an Emphasis in Intercollegiate Athletics Administration, walking on graduation day in 2010.

 

Present

 

April 2016, Yanni Hufnagel joined the University of Nevada Wolf Pack men’s basketball team after confirming an offer for an assistant coaching position right along side Eric Musselman. “Coach Hufnagel is one of the absolute best in the business, hands down.
